KITCHEN SKINCARE

Kitchen Skin Care

I have very sensitive skin which is why I always stay away from mainstream skincare and beauty products and I have to be very careful when shopping for products. I read the ingredients a thousand times, and I try to stick with the basics (natural and organic). I also don’t use a lot of makeup, but I do have a selective range of makeup products. So let’s talk about what kitchen skincare means. What kind of skincare products can come from you kitchen cabinets?
Every kitchen has oils, oats, sugar, salt, honey, eggs, lemons/limes, yogurt. And some pantries has turmeric, and gram flour. And everything I mentioned, is my go-to skincare. The products that I do buy are here:

First I always start by cleaning my face, either with a cleanser, or a homemade light scrub. Here are some recipes for scrubs that come from the kitchen:

1. Turmeric – 1 tsp. Gram flour – 1 tsp. Mix with water to have a paste like consistency and use it as a scrub or mask, then rinse. If you are using it as a mask then leave it on your face for 15-20 minutes. Increase amount for body, smooth paste. Turmeric has anti- inflammatory properties, it also helps with acne.
2. Turmeric – 1 tsp. Yogurt – 1 tsp. Mix and use it as a scrub. Yogurt is very moisturizing, it reduces wrinkles, also fights acne.
3. Gram flour – 1 tsp. Yogurt – 1 tsp. Mix and use it as a scrub or mask. If you are using it as a mask then leave it on your face for 15-20 minutes. Gram flour helps with acne, and exfoliates.
4. Rolled oat powder – 1 Tbsp Olive or Coconut oil – 1 tsp. Lime or lemon juice – 1 tsp. Mix and use it as a scrub or mask. Adjust quantity if face or body, if for body then increase for everything. Consistency should be nice paste, if for face same thing but let it dry for 15-20 minutes then rinse. Oats help reduce damage done to your skin by pollution.
5. Sugar or salt – 1 tsp. Honey – 1 tsp.Lemon juice – 1 tsp. Mix and use it as a scrub. Honey is antibacterial, and great for acne treatment.
6. Sugar or salt – 1 tsp. Choice of Oil – 1 tsp. Mix and use it as a scrub.
7. Sugar or salt – 1 tsp. Aloe Vera – 1 tsp. Choice of oil – 1 tsp Mix and use it as a scrub. Aloe Vera has antioxidants, enzymes, vitamins, is anti-inflammatory, also helps with burns.
8. Sugar or salt – 1/4 cup Aloe Vera gel – 3 Tbsp Choice of oil – 3 Tbsp

Along with scrubs, I usually do a face mask once a week, this is different than a scrub. Instead of scrubbing and washing right away, with a mask you can apply it and then leave it on your skin for 10-15 minutes.

Masks:

1. Oatmeal – 1 tsp. Aloe Vera – 1 Tbsp. Avocado – 1 tspHoney – 3 TspMix and use it as a mask let it sit until its dry and then rinse it off. Avocado is good for moisturizing
2. Gram Flour – 2 tsp. Turmeric – 1/2 Tsp Water as needed. Mix until paste consistency let it sit for 10-20 minutes, until it’s dry, and then dry rub it off, BEFORE rinsing.
I also do my own hair masks, and here are some of my go-to hair mask recipes:
Hair masks: Aloe Vera –  3 TbspYogurt – 2 TbspChoice of oil – 2 Tbsp Mix and apply to hair, let it sit for 30 minutes then wash your hair.

Here are some homemade moisturizers/oils:
Go to Oils/Moisturizers:

1. Coconut oil

2. Almond oil

3. Jojoba oil

4. Apricot oil

5. Castor oil (Very thick)When I run out I reach for avocado and/or olive oil. But normally that’s what I cook with.
6. Aloe vera – 1/4 cup Jojoba oil – 1 Tsp Coconut oil – 2 Tbsp (Almond, Apricot oil works fine too)

For my hair or body final rinse:

A bucket of water and the juice of 2 lemons (because I have pretty thick long hair) if you have less hair you may need less.Whenever I shower I usually do this because it’s very refreshing.
I would like to hear from all you readers what’s your skincare routine? And how much do you spend on skincare? If you have any homemade recipes for me leave them in the comments, and I’ll be sure to read them.

Thanks for stopping by,

Chaia
